Important Deadlines for Sons of Ohio

The following dates are important to help keep yourself, your squadron, and the Department compliant with the CBL regulations.

June 1 - Change of Officers Form, EIN Form 990 fiing receipt, and all membership for 2024-2025 due into HQ. Failure to file this paperwork will result in your delegates not being seated at convention and not being allowed to vote. It can also extend to membership and charter suspension. If you need assistance, please reach out to your Department officers. 

June 5 - All Department Officers and District Commanders reports for convention due into HQ for inclusion in the convention book.

Join us for the 2025 Department of Oho Convention. Watch thw mail at your local squadron for the pre-convention mailing for important information, including ways to save by pre-registrating your delegates.

PNC Charles Kyser

It is with heavy heart that we report that PNC and PDC (OH) Charles Kyser passed away on November 21, 2022. He was a leader and pioneer of the Sons of AMVETS both in Ohio and on the National level. He served in many offices along the way including Ohio State Commander three terms and National Commander two terms. He was a staunch supporter of the Veterans Day Bus Trip and a mentor to many of us as we climbed the ladder in the organization. We will post more details as we obtain them. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his friends and family in this time of loss. 

Randy Smith, PDC

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we pass along the information on the passing of Sons of AMVETS Ohio PDC Randy Smith. Randy was commander in 2009-2010, received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, and the Gil Garza Award in 2008. He was a shining example of what the Sons of AMVETS should be, and will be greatly missed by all those who loved him. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife Michelle, his family, and friends everywhere. Visitation is Thursday afternoon 3:00pm - 7:00pm and funeral services are Friday March 29 at 10:00am at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory.... 135 North Washington St Tiffin, Ohio 44883.  Obituary Informatin is below. 

Randall D. Smith, 67, of Tiffin, passed away at 2:15 a.m., Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the St. Francis Home in Tiffin. Arrangements are pending at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. 

Keith "Bubba" Sherrill, PDC

It is with heavy hearts that we are receiving news that Past Department Commander Keith "Bubba" Sherrill has passed away. We currently have no details. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in their time of loss. Keith served as Ohio Department Commander in 2011-12. We will pass along any information concerning services when we receive it.

Keith W. "Bubba" Sherrill, 46, of Oberlin, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria, 440-322-4626.

Rene Valley PDC, PNC

It is great remorse that we share the passing of PDC and PNC Rene Valley from Mt Vernon, Ohio. He served as Dept of Ohio Commander from 1998-99 and as National Commander from 1999 - 2000. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday February 18, 2018 at Lasater Funeral Home 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd Mt Vernon, Ohio from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.With Funeral services Monday at 11:00am. 

Harold Reed

The Sons of AMVETS lost a great supporter this past weekend. Harold Reed PDC from Michigan passed away. He served as the National Sons of AMVETS Coordinator with great pride and will be dearly missed. Prayers and thoughts go out to the Reed family, friends, and our AMVETS family to the north.
