In order to ensure the conference book is ready for Oct 2, all Officers' reports are due into HQ by Thursday September 24, 2015. This is the same day for the deadline for pre-registration for the conference. Reports may be emailed to ohsons@ohsonsofamvets.org to help you make the deadline. Thanks for your help in this matter.

The weekend of Sept 19-20, Commander Lutz and his officers will be touring the 7th District. Beginning at the Horseshoe Tournament and Campout in Logan. We will then go to 51 Thornville (@1:00), 2256 Circleville (@2:30), 61 Hillsboro (@4:00) at which point the officers at the Georgetown OVH picnic will join the tour, then 4 Chillicothe (@5:15), and finish the night at 1985 Lancaster. Sunday, mnay of us will be attending a picnic for Lancaster area foster families. If we are stopping at your post, please stop in and say hello! Hopefully we will see many of you this weekend!

This year's Fall Conference is being held in Westlake, Ohio on Oct 2 - 4, 2015. To view the agenda please click on AMVETS Ohio Fall Conference in the Events section. Pre-registration for the conference is due into HQ by Thursday September 24. Please click the links below for more information and the pre-registration form. All Department Officers' reports are due into HQ by Thursday Sept 24 as well, please make sure to meet this date to ensure your report being included in the conference book. We will be holding an Officers' Workshop at the conference to help any officers, on any level, who may have questions/concerns. This workshop will include the usual 1st Vice membership workshop as well as the 2nd Vice project reporting workshop. 

My father James Lutz, is a Navy Veteran who served from 1963-1966.  He was a mechanic for the F4-B Phantom Jets.  My grandfather Michel Daymut served in the Army during WWII.  He received many medals, including the Sliver Star. I wanted to continue the family history of serving our country, however, for medical reasons I wasn't allowed.  For many years I wanted to find a way to pay service to our country and felt becoming part of the AMVETS family would give me the opportunity to serve my country.

            I have been involved with this organization for many years.  I started in my home town Post #22 in Vermilion, Ohio.  I went through the chairs at the local level and continue to serve locally.  While in service at the local level, I stood as the JR. AMVETS advisor on behalf of the Sons and all the other chairs.  I was District 13th Commander and the following year joined the Sons of AMVETS at the state level. My services at this level started as 3rd vice.  Through the years I climbed the chairs and now fill the seat as Sons Department Commander. I will embrace this role to the best of my ability with the help of my officers.   

            My Commander’s project this year is the Valor Home. It is governed by the VA. There is a full description available below and under the project tab on Ohio Son’s website.

Kilroy is back.

If you’ve been observant, you may have seen cartoon drawings of a man peeking over a wall on billboards, store windows and signs around town this month.

The character is Kilroy, and the drawing was a popular piece of graffiti drawn by American troops in the Atlantic Theater and later the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Kilroy has shown up again, this time as a local campaign designed to honor veterans of World War II and teach young people about a significant piece of memorabilia from the era, said Bob Driftmyer, 9th District commander of AMVETS and past commander of AMVETS Post 21, Findlay.

“I’m sure everybody’s seen it once, but they might not have known what it was,” Driftmyer said. “We felt it was time to do something for the World War II guys since we’re losing them so quickly.”

He got the idea after talking with World War II veteran George Bjorling. Bjorling had asked a friend who was in the Battle of the Bulge if he remembered Kilroy.
