squadron offices of Commander, 1 st Vice, Adjutant, Finance Officer, and Chaplain and is currently serving another term as 1 st Vice. In the 9th District Gene served as Judge Advocate from 99-01 and as the 9th District Commander from 2002 through 2004. In the Sons of AMVETS State Dept. of Ohio Gene was the P.R.O. Historian for 2001-02 and is currently (2004-05) the Judge Advocate and P.R.O. Historian. For the past four years Gene, have gone to Washington D.C. for the Silver Helmet in March, lobbying Congress for Veterans rights on Capital Hill. On Veterans Day in November, he attends services at Arlington Cemetery . Gene shows his support for the Ohio Veterans homes by attending the dedication of the new home in Georgetown . He travels a minimum of three times a year to O.V.H. in Sandusky Oh. for Christmas, and cooks at the picnic in September. For the past three years, he has gone to Brecksville Veterans Home giving out cloths purchased by the 12 th District. At squadron 1991 in Defiance, Gene has started several programs to raise money for our Veterans and Community projects, and has helped take the Squadron from 28 members to 359 with 36 Life members. Along with being a Sons of AMVETS Life member, Gene belongs to the Sons of the American Legion, V.F.W. Men's Auxiliary, Elks, Moose, Eagles with a golden age Eagle membership, and Life member of the Fish and Game. If that wasn't enough, Gene has been married for 44yr. to his wife Margie and has 5 daughters, 5 granddaughters and 3 grandsons His daughter, Lori is a respiratory therapist at the Defiance Hospital , Sherri and Terri are stay at home moms, Wendi works an Eye Dr. and Vicki works doing tax returns. One of his grandsons is in his 3 rd year at O.H.S.U. studying to be a chemical engineer, 2 granddaughters in nurses training. When asked to sum up his involvement with the Sons of AMVETS, Gene replied “ I have been all over the country side doing what ever is asked of me to help out the Sons organization” |
